MC Love

In an attempt to make up a song list for my wedding reception, I was going through all my music (English at least) to pick the best and the brightest. Just FYI, for an average 4-hour reception they recommend having 80-110 songs to play! Whoo! That is a lot of music. Luckily, I have tons of songs to choose from.

Scanning through my music brought back a lot of fond memories to me - especially when I got to Mariah Carey. The first CD I ever bought was Mariah Carey's Daydream (back in '95!! Holy crap!) and I seriously played the shit out of that CD. I loved every song! Classic classic album with hits like Fantasy, One Sweet Day, Always Be My Baby... sigh. I really hope that the young whippersnappers of today realize that Mariah Carey is way more than "Touch My Body" or the woman who married a guy 10 years younger than her (Nick Cannon. And they have twins now!).

Not to be panning on Mariah's recent songs... but they just can't compare to her classic hits from before. Although I do love "Obsessed", partly because it's inspired by a line from the movie "Mean Girls"! Good movie.

I think another reason why I loved her songs was also because she used impressive vocabulary (or at least it seemed that way when I was 12!). Or at least referenced things that required a little intelligence. I mean, even in "Obsessed" she talks about a Napoleon complex. A little more complex than, for example, Dev's "Dancing in the Dark".

A good example is my favorite song of MC ever, Breakdown ft. Bone Thugs n Harmony.

So classic, so good! The lyrics seemed very meaningful even before I even had my first breakup! And she used words such as "nonchalant" and "guise"! Okay, maybe not SAT material but I was impressed, back in the day.

And just to finish, a gorgeous cover of MC's classic Whenever You Call, originally with Brian McKnight.

Back from Paris and into the Fall!

Came back from Paris on the 17th... was supposed to be back in Syracuse that night but I missed by connecting flight! Darn it. Well I got the next one out on Sunday, so I was back in apartment sweet apartment by the afternoon. Thank goodness I have Sun/Mon/Tues off. It's like a mini-vacation after vacation. Which, to be honest, was pretty essential because the Paris trip was brutal! In an amazing way, but tiring nonetheless.

The weather in Paris was strictly autumn-feeling, with coolish days and definitely cooler nights. It's sort of the same in Syracuse, yet strangely seems warmer. Maybe because I only experience Syracuse in my nice temperature-regulated car? In any case, summer is over. Sigh... it was good while it lasted. And it's time for another autumn in Syracuse and then a terrible terrible winter. Reminder to self... must schedule engagement photos and book a dj!

One of my favorite songs by Death Cab for Cutie, and very fitting for summer's end!

La Vie en Rose

Flying to Paris tomorrow night and I am so excited! I love traveling, and traveling with friends is even better! And even though I've technically been in Paris before, whizzing through on one of those whirlwind bus tours that the Chinese travel agencies set up, it felt like little bits and pieces of it. I never rode the Metro, we didn't get to go all the way up in the Eiffel Tower, and we saw three things in the Louvre (the Venus de Milo, Winged Victory and Mona Lisa) and then we were out. And geez, we ate McDonalds on the Champs Elysees. It was a pretty nice McDonalds, but I mean come on~!

Paris in 2007

It was also pretty cold when we went last time. Weather.com promises Paris to be in the high 60's and sunny with it... <crosses fingers>

being a busy bee!

Started thinking about wedding things again... mainly, finding a Chinese/English speaking MC/DJ! Thankfully in NYC this is a pretty common thing so I have a few options. Right now I'm aiming towards Dynasty Weddings, of which their best package seems the best... since it also includes photobooth! And I really really wanted a photobooth. Of course, it's also 3k... is that typical?

Also fell in love with some custom wedding cake-toppers, mainly these form lollipopworkshop on etsy:

That Stupid Song

First off... I hate that new song by Jason Derulo, "Don't Wanna Go Home". But why, you might ask? Party beat, vapid lyrics, and mildly catchy tune = instant pop hit. But yep, I hate it, mostly because it samples from Robin S's "Show Me Love", a classic from 1993 which I remember well as the background music to our aerobics class at Paerdagat Day Camp. Ahh, Paerdagat Camp!

...hot summer...

Omo. I'm actually glad that I'm working this weekend. At least there's free AC in the pharmacy! And seriously... I thought we were up central new york to avoid this crazy kind of heat! Well... must wait it out.

Thought this seemed fitting. More f(x)! Not my favorite but it is definitely a HOT HOT SUMMER.

f(x) - Hot Summer

Honestly I think the song is kinda silly when I read the lyrics. What the heck does it mean about the foreigners and wearing long black outfits?!

DIY: Floral Head Wreaths

So Dong and I went to the Sterling Renaissance Festival on Saturday and while we were there I was instantly charmed by the headpieces they were selling:

They had all types, from dainty and cute to ornate and ostentatious. The prices were from $20 up... and being with my frugal hubby, I went away empty handed. Sigh. But of course, that didn't mean I couldn't take pictures with them... sooooooo....
